Our high school's theme for the year last year was "character expressed in action." It seems a close fit to your work. I'm interested in finding out more.

Great substance! I appreciate the work that's being done in an area that has been neglected. Keep up the good work!

Dr. Kelly, Please change the music - how about the BeeGees?

Seriously, glad to see that you are deploying the methods of Dr. Deming in education. Now, if we could only get rid of ranking and rating and gold stars in schools. However, my wife - an educator - thinks that gold stars are OK. She has not convinced me.

I am a strong supporter of the philosophies of Glasser and Deming as they relate to "real" school reform. Your article in Kappan was stunning and "on target." I consewuently downloaded your book and again found myself saying, "Amen, Amen."

Attended the Character Education Conference at The College of NJ. Enjoyed your workshop. I just downloaded your book. Hope I can read it as some of it seems to be cut off on the left margin. Has your book been published yet? if so, where can I get it? I would like to learn more about Glasser. Any graduate courses using his theories? You can email me at PAMBE11@AOL.com if you have time. Thanks again and I'm glad that CHARACTER will once again become valued. Pam 5-18-99

Excellent information! I am a Western Michigan University doctoral student. Currently I am exploring possible subjects for my proposal/dissertation. "Character Education" in the public school system is one of my top ten topics. Your info has been helpful and my choices are narrowing.

Thanks so much for sharing this important information. I have been working as a volunteer in education for more than 20 years and you are right on target with virtues and character education. Maybe now I will learn something I can use and strive to become a virtuous educator.

It's high time for a philosophical/psychological re-drafting of our educational values and Dr. Kelly is just the man to spearhead this movement!!! marc satz ...music therapist at Edenwald School, Pleasantville, N.Y.

I teach 3rd and 4th grade Special Ed. in a school district drowning in mandates...not only from the federal and state govt., but now from our superintendent also...it is very sad to see, because this used to be a vibrant, wonderful school with teachers who were excited to be here, but that seems to be dying slowly and steadily and no-one seems to know how to stop the death of enthusiasm, the death of feeling valued. Even those teachers who fought to make themselves heard about what kind of teaching "made sense" have stopped trying to say anything to the superintendent's office, because there is never any response or hint of having heard..just more directives in the mail. Our school needs the kind of leadership described here, but I'm not sure it will come in time. At least, I am glad to have come across these writings and to know that some people are talking this way...it makes so much sense...Good luck! -mary...mmkirby5@hotmail.com
